Activation of Domestic Muslim Tourism by Identifying the Current Status of Japanese Muslim Tourism Industry

This study aims to create Muslim-friendly tourism demands by discovering the cases that can be applied within the country based on the tourism policies and corporate cases related to Muslim tourism market in Japan. In addition, this study can be differentiated from the other existing studies in that it proposes policies necessary for entering the domestic Muslim tourism market based on the Japanese corporate cases. Japan is actively pushing ahead with policy development under the supervision of central government and various projects at the local autonomous entity level. The country is introducing Japanese foods by inviting the local travel agents in Muslim countries and developing promotion activities and implementing various policies including distribution of information leaflet that introduces about Halal restaurant in Japan. The conclusions for activating the domestic Muslim tourism through Japanese cases are first, ‘Improve the infrastructure for Muslim tourists and develop a project for expanding the individual tourists’, second, ‘Develop tourism products for visit to Korea using the Hallyu phenomenon and expand the sales,’ and third, ‘Reinforce the efforts for expanding the medical tourists in Middle East Area and use public relations and online marketing in major Middle East countries.’ By doing so, the recognition of Korean tourism will be increased.
